Paragliding in Fethiye

Paragliding in Fethiye – Everything you want to know

Fethi… what? Yes, that’s what I thought when I heard about this place for the first time. I honestly never ever heard about it! But after some minutes of research, I already wanted to go there. You will understand why after this little text. First of all, Fethiye is located on Turkey’s southwestern Turquoise coast and is known for its natural harbor and incredibly beautiful blue waters. To reach it you can just take a plane to Dalaman airport, which is about 70km outside of the center. The region is especially famous because of the several possibilities for paragliding in Fethiye.

Turkey’s paragliding paradise

So it was also my personal highlight to try paragliding in Fethiye, even more, because I couldn’t try it in Rio de Janeiro. As soon as you arrive there you will see many paragliders during the whole day. After a look at the price table, it’s clear why! The prices are really fair (we paid around 90$, pictures and videos included) and there are plenty of companies to serve you in the center of Fethiye. As usual in Turkey you can talk about the price, so don’t worry about that. I personally took the company “Fly Infinity Turkey”. Most of their pilots speak English, so you will not have any issues with communication. Of course, you can also take any other company. The starting area is on 1700 to 1900 meters height, depending on the wind conditions. And believe me, you will not forget this experience. It feels like you are flying and in contrast to a skydive, it’s also something for people that are not that brave. The views are simply amazing: landscapes, the clear sea and if you’re lucky you can even see big turtles in the water. If you’re interested in doing it you can book your own experience right here.

Unforgettable views

Paragliding in Fethiye – what else?

Good question. Can you just try paragliding in Fethiye? Not at all! It’s just the absolute highlight. Fethiye is without a doubt perfect if you just want to chill at the beach, swim in the clear water and relax. However, there are plenty of other things to do in Fethiye. From Ölüdeniz beach you can book a ship tour which will bring you to the most famous beaches, lagoons and views. Between the stops, you can sunbath, drink and eat. It’s like a “moving hotel pool”. The most famous side of this tours is probably Butterfly Valley, which is absolutely beautiful and only accessible with the ship. I paid just 25 Turkish Liras (not even 7$) for the whole trip with a lunch included. Highly recommended!

And I didn’t’ even mention the history aspect of Fethiye yet. Close to Fethiye, you can find Tlos, an ancient ruined hilltop citadel. On exactly this place humans lived already 4000 years ago. For me, this is an impressive number and something hard to imagine.

Transportation

I guess you are just paragliding in Fethiye to get to another place? I wish! There are some shuttle buses to the center and, of course, you can always take a taxi. But be careful, they are for example more expensive than in Istanbul. To reach the different destinations around Fethiye it is a good idea to book tourist tours. Of course, you can also take a taxi, but this will not be cheap. We had our personal taxi driver, with whom we made fix (and pretty cheap) price before our trips. I will give you his Facebook Page to contact him if you ever stay in Fethiye.

From and to the airport

Unlike in many other places, this one was quite an easy one: The Dalama airport might be 70 kilometers situated outside of Fethiye, yet this is not a problem at all. Don’t take a cab! There are several busses for cheap money which will bring you to the city center. From there you can take a taxi for a small amount of money to your destination.

Accommodation in Fethiye

Like always it is crucial where you stay on your trip. Do you prefer the cheapest option or prefer a luxurious stay? No problem! I tried to cover all possible needs and will suggest you some great options with amazing ratings.

  • Dove Apart Hotel: Extremely cheap and close to the beach. With a pool area inside the property.
  • Alesta Yacht Hotel: Middle-class hotel with a private beach and pool. Perfect for couples.
  • Hillside Beach Club: Luxurious beach club with a perfect location and many benefits.

Should you go to Fethiye?

To come to an end I can just say that I highly recommend Fethiye if you are looking for a relaxing holiday combined with some cool activities, such as paragliding, for an appropriate price. I didn’t use my photography equipment there for example, because I preferred to relax once I arrived there. It is a perfect place to take some time for yourself.

Have you ever been there or plan to go in the future? Let me know!
